Day 1 - London to Hahnenklee
We leave St Pancras International by Eurostar today bound for Brussels, where we change trains, speeding through Germany. At Hanover, we are picked up and transferred to Hahnenklee, which is located high above Goslar, set in the snow-capped Harz Mountains. We check into the 3* Ramada Hotel Vier Jahreszeiten for five nights. (D)
Day 2 - Goslar Christmas Market
Today we make the short journey by coach to Goslar, a UNESCO World Heritage Site which has many historic buildings, majestic churches and a charming Christmas Market, which is a real pleasure to explore. The Kaiserpfalz Imperial Palace, the oldest surviving Romanesque palace in Germany, is certainly worth a visit, as is the gothic Town Hall, which dominates the Market Square. In fact, there are more than 1,500 pretty timber-framed buildings located in Goslar's Old Town, which makes for an atmospheric setting for the Christmas Market. (B,D)
Day 3 - At leisure in Hahnenklee
Spend the day relaxing in the hotel's leisure facilities or exploring the village. Perhaps join our optional excursion to Wernigerode on the Brocken Railway, for a wintry journey to the summit of the Brocken Mountain, which is the highest peak of the majestic Harz Mountains. Alternatively, why not take a refreshing walk through the forests and continue up Bocksberg Mountain to experience the superb views over the surrounding area?(B,D)
Day 4 - Wernigerode & the Harz Railway
We travel by coach to Wernigerode today, a charming town complete with stunning hilltop Gothic castle. There is free time here to enjoy Wernigerode's charming Christmas Market, which is set in front of the town hall. We then travel on theHarzquerbahn narrow gauge railway, which carries us past rocky mountain ranges and through pretty valleys on a journey to the heart of the spectacular Harz area. After meandering through the wonderfully scenic Harz National Park, where we enjoy the magnificent views to Eisfelder Talmühle, we return to Hahnenklee.(B,D)
Day 5 - Quedlinburg Christmas Market
Today we take a coach to Quedlinburg, a beautiful town and one of Germany's best kept secrets. The Old Town has been awarded UNESCO World Heritage status and is home to a collection of beautifully preserved medieval architecture. Here we enjoy free time to explore the town and its authentic Christmas Market.(B,D)
Day 6 - Homeward bound
We are picked up from our hotel and transferred to Hanover, where we catch our onward service via Cologne to Brussels. We change here to the Eurostar which whisks us back to St Pancras International in London. (B)
